From its first issue in April, 1891, four pages of now-yellowing newsprint that rolled off W.T. Jackman’s small press that he’d set up above a farm implement shop on Main Street, the Progress now publishes two times a week.

 

And while the Progress has seen numerous owners over the years, it has never lost sight of Jackman’s original vision for his new publication, that if you serve your community well, it will do well by you. A member of the Black Community Newspaper Group since January, 1997, the Progress continues to serve and grow with its community through its commitment to organizations like Rotary and the Business Improvement Association.
